To every husband: A Message from the Messenger of Allah


From The Messenger of Allah -peace & blessings be upon him- to every husband

All perfect praise be to Allah Alone; and may Allah send blessing and peace upon Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, after whom there will be no Prophet. To go further:

Below is a set of Prophetic advices and Muhammadan instructions to every Muslim husband. We ask Allah Almighty to help him obey Allah and obtain His good pleasure.

1- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The one who is the most perfect in faith among the believers is he who has the best moral character among them; and the best among you are those who are the best of you (in treatment) to their wives.” [At-Tirmizi and authenticated by Al-Albani]

‹‹أكمل المؤمنين إيمانًا أحسنهم خُلقًا، وخياركم خياركم لنسائهم›› 
رواه الترمذي وصححه الألباني


2- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “It is enjoined upon you to treat women kindly.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

‹‹استوصوا بالنساء خيرا›› 
رواه البخاري ومسلم


3- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “No believing man should hate a believing woman (his wife): if he dislikes a characteristic from her, of a surety, he would be pleased with another from her.” [Muslim]

‹‹لا يفرك مؤمن مؤمنة -أي لا يبغضها- إن كره منها خُلقُاً رضى منها آخر›› 
رواه مسلم


4- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The greatest sin in the Sight of Allah is that a man marries a woman, and when he fulfills his desire from her (by having sexual intercourse with her), he divorces her and takes away her dowry.” [Declared Hasan (good) by Al-Albani]

‹‹إن أعظم الذنوب عند الله: رجل تزوج امرأة فلما قضى حاجته منها طلقها وذهب بمهرها›› 
حسنه الألباني


5- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “He, who has two wives of whom he is inclined to one (more than the other), he will come on the Day of Judgment, with one of his sides inclined.” [Abu Dawud, and authenticated by Al-Albani]

‹‹من كانت له امرأتان فمال إلى أحدهما جاء يوم القيامة وشقه مائل›› 
رواه ابو داود وصححه الألباني


6- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “A woman is married for four (things): her property, her good ancestry, her beauty and her religion. Behold! Obtain the religious woman, lest you would lose (good)!” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

‹‹تنكح المرأة لأربع : لمالها ولحسبها وجمالها ولدينها ، فاظفر بذات الدين تربت يداك›› 
متفق عليه


7- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said (addressing ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Amr): “O ‘Abdullah! Have I not been told that you observe fast by day and stand (in prayer) at night (perpetually)?” he said: “Yes O Messenger of Allah.” He, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Then, do not do so. Observe fast (for some days) and leave fasting (for some days);and stand (in prayer for a part of the night) and sleep (for a part of the night). Indeed, your body has a right on you, and your eyes have right on you, and your wife has a right on you.” [Al-Bukhari]

‹‹يا عبد الله ، ألم أخبر أنك تصوم النهار وتقوم الليل. قلت : بلى يا رسول الله ، قال : فلا تفعل ، صم وأفطر ، وقم ونم ، فإن لجسدك عليك حقا ، وإن لعينك عليك حقا ، وإن لزوجك عليك حقا›› 
رواه البخاري


8- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Let none of you lash his wife in the same way as he lashes a slave and then come to sleep with her at the end of the day.” [Al-Bukhari]

‹‹لا يجلد أحدكم امرأته جلد العبد ، ثم يجامعها في آخر اليوم››
رواه البخاري


9- It is narrated on the authority of Mu‘awiyah Ibn Haidah that he said: I said: “O Messenger of Allah! What is the right the wife of anyone of us has on him?” he, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “To feed her whenever you feed yourself, to dress her whenever you dress yourself, and not to slap the face, nor to ascribe her to ugliness (i.e. to say ‘may Allah deface you’), nor to leave the house in case you are to forsake her.” [Abu Dawud and authenticated by Al-Albani]

‹‹يا رسول الله ما حق زوجة أحدنا عليه قال أن تطعمها إذا طعمت وتكسوها إذا اكتسيت أو اكتسبت ولا تضرب الوجه ولا تقبح ولا تهجر إلا في البيت›› 
رواه ابو داود وصححه الألباني


10- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “And your right upon them is that they never make anyone you dislike sit on your beds: if they do so, then, beat them but not severely. Their right upon you is that you should provide them with sustenance and clothing fairly and reasonably.” [Muslim]

‹‹ولكم عليهن أن لا يوطئن فرشكم أحدا تكرهونه، فإن فعلن ذلك فاضربوهن ضربا غير مبرح، ولهن عليكم رزقهن وكسوتهن بالمعروف›› 
رواه مسلم


11- It is narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: “The Abyssinians were playing (in a display) with their spears, when the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, screened me (with his garment) to be able to watch them, and I kept watching until I left on my own accord.” [Al-Bukhari]

‹‹كان الحبش يلعبون بحرابهم، فسترني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وأنا أنظر، فما زلت أنظر، حتى كنت أنا أنصرف›› 
رواه البخاري


12- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “May Allah have mercy upon a man who stands at night and performs (supererogatory) prayer and then awakens his wife (to perform prayer), and if she rejects, he sprinkles water in her face (to awaken her).” [Ahmad and Abu Dawud, and authenticated by Al-Albani]

‹‹رحم الله رجلا قام من الليل فصلى وأيقظ امرأته فإن أبت نضح في وجهها الماء›› 
رواه أحمد وابو داود وصححه الألباني


13- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The worst of people in the Sight of Allah Almighty on the Day of Judgment will be a man who has sexual intercourse with his wife, and then divulges her secret.” [Muslim]

‹‹إن من أشر الناس عند الله منزلة يوم القيامة ، الرجل يفضي إلى امرأته ، وتفضى إليه ، ثم ينشر سرها›› 
رواه مسلم


14- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Cursed be he who has sexual relation with a woman (his wife) in her anus.” [Ahmad Shaker and authenticated by Al-Albani]

‹‹ملعون من أتى امرأة في دبرها›› 
رواه أحمد شاكر وصححه الألباني


15- It is narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: “the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, never beat a servant nor a woman (of his wives).” [Declared authentic by Al-Albani]

‹‹ما ضرب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ، خادما ، ولا امرأة قط›› 
صححه الألباني


16- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “You never spend anything therewith you seek the Countenance of Allah but that for which you will receive a reward, even if it is a morsel you put in the mouth of your wife.” [Agreed upon]

‹‹نك لن تنفق نفقة تبتغي بها وجه الله إلا أجرت عليها، حتى ما تجعل في فيِّ امرأتك›› 
متفق عليه واللفظ للبخاري


17- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Anything in which there is no remembrance of Allah Almighty is but (idle) diversion and play, except for four, including one’s playing with his wife.” [Authenticated by Al-Albani]

‹‹كل شيء ليس من ذكر الله لهو ولعب إلا أن يكون أربعة- وذكر منها- ملاعبة الرجل امرأته›› 
صححه الألباني



O Allah! Send Your blessing upon the Muslim husbands and wives, instill affection and mercy between them, and endow them with the righteous offspring.

Amen, O Lord of the worlds.
